Polo near Bellingham.
La Conner Polo Club is the nearest polo club to Bellingham — about 45 minutes south down I-5 (or the long way, down Chuckanut Drive). Whatcom County riders and spectators make the trip through the season for club chukkers, USPA tournament weekends and lessons.
The drive south
I-5 south to Conway or Mount Vernon, then west to 16278 Laconner-Whitney Rd, La Conner, WA 98257. If you have the afternoon, Chuckanut Drive along Samish Bay is the better version of the same trip.
Weekday chukkers start at 5:30 PM — close enough to Bellingham for an evening game and a drive home.
For Whatcom County riders
Plenty of people in the north Sound ride but have never sat on a polo pony. Lessons run on club horses, and horse rentals are available through George Dill's rental operation, so you can try the sport before committing to a string of your own.
New players take an evaluation lesson, then join club chukkers. Lesson and chukker rates.
Make a day of it
Spectators pay $10 at the gate. Bring chairs and a picnic, and pair the match with oysters at Samish Bay or an afternoon in downtown La Conner.
